One store manager is sponsoring a week long dollar donation
drive as a personal contribution to Project Learning Around the World.
Every dollar donated will go to school supplies for the South African children.

Sixth grade students at Newton LocalSchool District in Ohio are going to be learning about South Africa, writing letters, and attaching school supplies to be sent to students in South Africa in April 2010. |  |

donations at their fall conference.
Girl Scout Project - Girl Scout GOLD AWARD  | Taylor, age 16, is working on her Gold Award in Girl Scouting. This is the highest award that a Girl Scout ages 14-18 can achieve. It involves a minimum |
of 65 hours of service toward a project that will have on-going benefits to the community. Taylor\'s goal is to collect several pounds of school supplies to aid students of South Africa.
The city of Maumee, Ohio has shown great support and incredible generosity.
Parishioners of St. Joseph\'s Church, Maumee, Ohio, donated school supplies to this cause during their religious education summer camp.
The Elk\'s Lodge awarded Taylor an Elk\'s Scout Merit Award of $1,000.00 to help fund the project.
In addition, Taylor will be visiting area 3rd grade classrooms this November to raise awareness of the needs in South Africa and to help the students embark on pen pal relationships with South African students. With the assistance of Dr. Audrey Ellenwood of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), this spring, Taylor will deliver collected school supplies and pen pal letters to rural schools in need in South Africa. She will return to the U.S. with pen pal letters to deliver to the area 3rd graders who participated in the pen pal letter writing. Furthermore, she and those who have been touched by the project will have a greater understanding of what it takes to "make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.". |
5,500 GOLD AWARDS!Last year, approximately 5,500 girls received the Girl Scout Gold Award.
That was around 5.4% of the eligible registered Girl Scouts in grades 10-12.

Stacey has been involved with Project Learning Around the World for two years and manages the Cake and Dessert Auction fundraiser by collaborating with BGSU\'s local Wal-Mart. In March 2009, Stacey traveled with members of the school psychology program to South Africa to deliver the collected funds and educational supplies to the township schools. She feels very fortunate to have had the experience to see the children and communities that are benefiting from Project Learning Around the World\'s efforts to promote education in less fortunate areas of the world. |
